About the Project

As part of the CAID course at Umeå Institute of Design, I was introduced to advanced surface modeling techniques in Rhino, with a particular focus on smooth transitions and precise geometries. After a series of lectures, we were given a fast-paced and hands-on challenge: choose an object and model it within three days, pushing for high surface quality and realism. This exercise significantly sharpened my skills in Rhino, especially in working with complex forms under time constraints.

I chose to recreate the Apple Watch Series 5, a product I wear every day. All I had was a digital blueprint with dimensions, a caliper, and my own watch as reference. The build combined NURBS modeling for the watch case with Rhino’s (then-new) SubD tools for the flexible sport band.
